Visiting the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition

Welcome to our Art Adventure: Visiting the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition.

Warning from Van Gogh Chicago: This exhibition contains sequences of bright flashing lights which may affect visitors who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy, as well as others who are sensitive to moving lights. Viewer discretion is advised.

Hello friends, Mateo and I are happy to take you  through our experience of this remarkable installation. Our visit began with a rainy drive from Detroit to Chicago on a Friday morning.
We visit Chicago often and love staying in hotels near the Randolph and Wacker area. The bridges on Wacker are strong structural beauties.

Once we made our way across the Chicago River, we were only a couple of miles south of Old Town. In Chicago, a couple of miles can easily turn into a 20-minute drive so we had to be aware of that in order to be on time for our reserved viewing. Old Town charmed us with various food spots, parks, museums, and of course, the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit!

The exhibition is set in the historic and exceptionally maintained, Germania Place.

This building is recognizable from its rich terra-cotta exterior which is placed on a limestone base.

Once we were at the front of the line, we could see how carefully planned this exhibition is. The staff was very helpful in guiding us through our date-night package.

Fortunately, street parking was available so we had no issues with that. We walked towards the entrance of the building and were greeted with VIP passes – this made us feel quite special! We made our way through the space and into a lounge area. From there, we were gifted with all things Van Gogh! We were given posters and cushions to use during the show (also great for a picnic trip at Millenium Park afterwards).

After we spent some time in the VIP lounge, we were escorted up to the Juliet Balcony. Wow, was this space a romantic scene! A contemporary loveseat was ready for us with two pillows decorated in Van Gogh’s work. We sat down as our kind greeter opened up a sparkling bottle of champagne. He poured us a glass of Taittinger Brut Réserv and presented us with a box of Vosges chocolate truffles next to an assorted bouquet of bright flowers from Flowers for Dreams. These flowers were so vivid and caught the attention of people around us. A woman actually approached me about where she can get a beautiful bouquet for herself!

We settled in comfortably as the show began. Mateo and I were entranced throughout the entire experience. The visual display by Massimiliano Siccardi paired seamlessly with a classical and original score from composer, Luca Longobardi.

As if the exhibition itself wasn’t spectacular enough, the delicious chocolate truffles were rich in flavorful variety and coupled perfectly with the champagne.

When the viewing was over, our greeter came to escort us down into the main viewing area where we explored a bit further into the other spaces. We made sure to stop by the gift shop and grab some goodies like a puzzle, coasters, and change purse of my favorite Van Gogh painting, Almond Blossom.

Our experience didn’t end there! We spent some time in the VIP lounge as we moved on our way towards the exit. There, you can find beautiful paintings of local artists like Arica Hilton. Her series entitled, “My World is Full of Possibilities” set the tone for the space. The gold accents and the soft abstract movement in the artwork relaxed our minds after being immersed in such a a stimulating art adventure.

The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition is truly an unforgettable event.

We hope you enjoyed our art adventure and are able to have one of your own soon!
