Multi-colored, flickering lights line the streets and homes during the holiday season; mimicking shimmering clusters of stars draping over the night. Christmas bulbs strung together set the mood for the time of year that we have all come to know as Christmas. The roots of our tendency to decorate during the season can be traced back hundreds of years ago in our history. Illuminated installations and shiny ornaments can evoke the holiday spirit in all of us.
Christmas and art often go hand in hand and without it, the holidays wouldn’t quite be the same. Decorating for Christmas is one of the many ways, we get into the holiday spirit but as the day inches closer, as we have come to understand year over year, finding unique and one-of-a-kind gifts can become challenging.
During our IG Live Studio Session featuring artist Gray Lucci (watch here), we learn the value of homemade gifts, the extra effort and thought put into a homemade gift can be more memorable than your typical shop purchases. As we browse the aisles from store to store, scouring shelves and online websites trying to decide on the perfect gift for our loved ones we often find the expectations to impress can draw a blank for many of us when trying to decide on just the right gift.
To bring happiness to others is the true meaning of Christmas and handmade pieces add a personalized one-of-a-kind touch. When gift-giving, we all want to find the perfect item and homemade gifts can ensure a truly unique gift. This is a time for us to be creative and often this can guarantee a gift the receiver will not already have. If you’re a creative person or simply someone who enjoys the act of creating, the process of crafting a homemade gift is a fun process, it beats battling crowds and the hustle and bustle of anxiety-provoked holiday shopping. Handcrafted gifts can often create a real connection with our loved ones and have the ability to create sentiments mass-produced store brought gifts may not. Throughout history one of the traditional methods of gift-giving was hand-making items for each other.
Homemade trinkets and desserts, customized boxes, scrapbooks, soaps, soy candles, clay-made sculptures, ceramics, paintings, portraits, handcrafted jewelry, and even poems are among the many ideas one can opt for when deciding to create a truly personalized gift. Handmade gifts are often where inspiration and creativity come alive. The art of Christmas is not solely limited to creative ways to decorate your home and space but can branch out to creative ways of gift-giving! As we head into a new year, we should keep in mind that DIY or artist-made gifts may be something we ought to try out for future gift-giving. Lastly, you can always visit our shop for handmade pieces for that extra something special.
