‘Brothers VII’ is a figurative portrait rendered in graphite and mixed media on paper. The artwork presents two youthful figures, their gazes locked directly with the viewer in a way that is both unsettling and thought-provoking. Though the two faces do not share obvious resemblances, small, glittering blue details unite them, hinting at a subtle, enigmatic connection.
The boy on the left, with his crossed eyes, and crooked nose, as well as the boy on the right with his large eyes and visible teeth add a layer of human vulnerability and individuality to the piece. The figures’ ambiguous gender and the expressionistic rendering evoke a sense of curiosity about their identity and the nature of their relationship.
The glittering blue accents act as symbolic threads of shared experience or unity, standing out against the black-and-white tones of the drawing. These shimmering details inject a sense of hope or shared essence into the otherwise somber and mysterious composition.
The “Brothers” series delves into the profound and formative bond between siblings, exploring its pivotal role in shaping and sustaining self-identity. Our character and sense of self begin to take form through our interactions with others, often evolving unconsciously alongside these relationships. This series serves as a meditation on the connection with the “other”—a mirror that reflects our ties to those around us and, ultimately, to the multifaceted parts of ourselves.
Born in Messina, Italy in 1984, Giuditta’s exploration with art began during childhood, as her parents are both artists, where she became fascinated with graphite drawings.
