‘Aliyeh is 18 years old. When she was taken captive by ISIS, she tattooed name of the city where she was living in, on her right hand. That city was occupied by ISIS and Alieh with other Yazidi women were their slavers. She tattooed this design using ash and her breast milk. The city was called “Shangal”.’

Shaghayegh Moradiannejad is a social documentary photographer who is fond of narrating women’s stories. The story of women who carry the heavy and severe burden of war on their shoulders.

She attempts to record the long-term effects of war on women and children. This effort was started in Iran and Afghanistan and she intends to continue it in other areas of the world. She would like to announce their suppressed sorrow through her photos.
