A statement from Samiran…
Nature fascinates and inspires me. It always has a way of calling to me and has been my best instructor. I get enhanced by its power and beauty more and more. To constantly experience nature, I frequently travel to the Himalayas, my favorite subject to paint. As an artist, my most prolific muse is Indian landscape, specifically the Himalayas and the sacred place of Varanasi, India.
The breathtaking and rich scenery of the Himalayas in every season stimulates my artistic creativity. Some days, the landscape is moody and misty while others it is bright and sunny. I reflect the diverse atmosphere genuinely in my watercolor & acrylic paintings. I primarily paint in an impressionist style, capturing the essence of natural landscapes and city life.
I started painting as a child. After graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the prestigious Kolkata Govt. College of Art and Craft (Calcutta University, India), I became an established artist with solo and group exhibitions, book publications, and earned various awards. My time spent in residencies, both local and abroad, helped me realize what I wanted to achieve.
For me, light, atmosphere, and space are very essential components of a painting. I reproduce sound, smell, and taste through the many shades of my watercolor paintings. I want my paintings to be a personal expression of my own experiences.

“What emotions are expressed in your art?”
I love to travel to different places. Subject matter expresses emotion in a painting. Colours plays a significant role in expressing emotions. I use light transparent colours which can exude relaxation. Colour contrast also express one painting emotion, I use colors throughout the spectrum to create different moods and express the essence of the scenery.
I always feel joy, pleasure, & excitement when I start any painting en plein air. I always try to find out interesting subjects which make me happy and relaxed. Painting in nature also helps me meditate while I am surrounded by silent, natural beauty; that’s why I love painting Himalaya.
“What are your three go-to materials for making art?”
I love transparent watercolour on handmade paper and 300 GSM Acid free papers. I use watercolour board and easel when I create watercolour paintings. When I paint en plein air or make quick outdoor watercolor sketches, watercolor pads are great. I paint with different sizes round & flat high quality soft brushes. Because I strongly believe any successful watercolour paintings depends on bold brushes techniques with colour & water. So always use good quality watercolour brushes.
When I draw light sketches, I just use an HB pencil or 2B pencil and use a high-quality soft eraser on high quality watercolour paper.
“Who is your favorite iconic artist?”
I enjoy great master works as well as art by contemporary local and international artists. Turner, Winslow Homer, Abanindranath Tegore, and many contemporary international landscape watercolour artists always inspire me.
“How do you align with The Art Spread’s mission of empathy and awareness?”
The Art Spread’s mission is to communicate and promote many artists’ individual style for their paintings and their art journey to art lovers and the community. I believe they are doing an excellent job for artists’ careers. Frequently they organize different art fairs, art events, and art workshops to develop relationships between artists, art lovers, and collectors inside one umbrella. The Art Spread develops a thriving cultural community for everyone.
“Who is your biggest fan and supporter?”
My first biggest fans & supporters are my parents and my school Art teacher. Without their support, my early artistic journey was not possible. I am grateful to God, that my paintings are being liked by the public and by distinguished elite viewers of society. I have published many watercolour & acrylic books with my paintings. I was pleasantly surprised to experience support from many young, talented artists, and people from the community enjoy my work and even ask for my autograph.
“How can we support you?”
As a freelance artist I have struggled a lot in my career. I have a long way to cross every impediment of life. There may be many shortcomings in my effort but I am sure I can correct them through the suggestion and healthy criticism of art lovers and art collectors.
